very confusing that what is legal and what is not. They do not have Right to provide free music, every
album has licenses and every song sold on internet in Rs. 5
According to copyright law, obtaining or distributing a copyrighted work without the permission of
the copyright holder is against the law. Some music is copyrighted and some are not. And some files
are copyrighted but the artists or copyright holders freely provide the music for downloading on the
internet. So, we can say that downloading music free Illegal but some time it is legal.
Illegal:
Music files which are copyrighted by others, downloading that file is illegal.
If you did not purchase the burning compact discs of music.
Legal:
If copyright holder allowing the free access for distribution and controlling the distribution.
Non-copyrighted music, they are freely available for downloading.
If you purchased copyrighted music.
Redistribution, without the artists consent, is illegal. if you knowingly downloading music that is
being distributed without the artist's consent, then you are involved in illegal activity.
There are so many websites and apps which provide free music, but they provide low quality music
usually like 64kbps, 128kbps so companies don’t care much about them as they are indirectly
promoting their music.
But, when high quality music provided by website or any apps, then legal action should by take via
sending DMCA notice.
The RIAA oversees about 85 percent of published music product, distribution and manufacturing in
the United States. Their stated thing is to support artists' creativity and help them not be cheated
out of money by illegal downloading. The RIAA launched its first suits on 8 September 2003, against
individualities who illegally downloaded music lines from the Kazaa fasttrack network.
Two times after it began, the movement survived at least one major legal challenge. The RIAA said it
filed 750 suits in February 2006 against individualities downloading music lines without paying for
them in expedients of putting an end to Internet music pirating. The RIAA hopes their crusade will
force people to admire the imprints of music markers and ultimately minimize the number of illegal
downloads.
The Official Charts Company began to incorporate downloads in the UK Mates Chart on 17 April
2005, at which time Radio 1 stopped broadcasting the separate download map, although the map is
still collected. originally this was on condition that the song must have a physical media release at
the same time; this rule was completely lifted on 1 January 2007, meaning all download deals are
now eligible in the map.
